A walk through Huntley Meadows Park
Ever since I took up photography during the fantastic times of the COVID-19 pandemic I figured I would end up in a situation where I would need something to both share my work and network with other people sharing the hobby.
My jump into photography as a pastime is something that would have never happened without the willful assistance of my wife, gifting me a Sony Alpha 7 II with the kit lens. I'm usually averse to spending money, and when I do it, it is typically on necessary things.
The biggest hurdle to overcome in creating a website was my even greater aversion to web design. As an IT consultant with a background in programming the non-visible things, I was an animal from the times of Geocities and compiled CGIs, lost in a world where people are actually writing "backend" software in.... Javascript. Since the website was to be the medium and not the actual body of work, I kept delaying it for months. Eventually, I bit the bullet and decided to give a recognized platform a chance...
And here we are.
As an amateur photographer, the ability to publish some of my work, scout for contests and networking with others is more important than earning anything material out of it, at least for the time being. Kit does not pay itself, so, I certainly do take paid work (if it is interesting and genuinely rewarding) and I also accept donations (preferably of kit and lenses).
Most of the time, though, I will be traveling out there with a camera in my bag and a notebook, and quite possibly, the family in tow :-)
