Hey!
About me
I am a (mostly) amateur photographer, mostly interested in landscapes and nature, but usually just point the camera at anything worth capturing during my solo and family travels. Once upon a time a global pandemic kept people locked in their homes, and someone bought a camera... and the rest is history.
Editing and shooting style
Or how to avoid artifice in the era of Autotune-Filter-Everything
I prefer to edit as little as possible, perhaps to motivate myself as a photography novice to improve the tools and circumstances that already exist in the medium. I believe that we can only alter so much about an image until it becomes a simulation of the original, and, for the most part, since the birth of photography, its purpose was to retain information against the passing of time. I occasionally break this rule, but still aim for shooting and editing something that feels, looks and prints real. With the advances of technology, as sensors and software improved, it all brought out the imperfect reality of our world and who we are. While we could edit freckles out and smooth out skin ad nauseam... it all seems like a futile exercise in avoiding the obvious: the camera is a honest observer. I like it that way.
Opportunities
I'm interested in any pro bono (with expenses covered) and paid work in the realm of photography related to my interest in nature, wild life and capturing thought provoking images. I've worked as an IT consultant for many years and eventually found a rewarding experience in photography, so I intend to keeping it worth my while, lest it becomes tainted by burnout. I also readily volunteer for organizations involved in disaster and emergency response, possess a recognized international hamradio license and certifications for civil defense, something that I would like to potentially combine with my photography.
